ASBX BUSINESS CHALLENGE FOR GREATER BUKIT BINTANG 2023

The ASBX Challenge is a collaborative challenge that enables students to solve real industry challenges co-organised with the Network of Bukit Bintang Communities (NBBC) and KL Society aim to make Bukit Bintang (and the Greater Bukit Bintang) as one of the most liveable cities in the world by 2057. The business challenge focused on solving the last mile connectivity issues of the urban mobility for better connectivity, convenience, comfort, accessibility, and mobility (C3AM).

The program was conducted in a mixed mode of online and face-to-face interactions over the period of 12 weeks, through sessions of expert series knowledge sharing, mentoring, idea testing, video presentations and a Finale Idea Pitching for finalists. More than 500 students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation participated in this challenge.

The ASBX Challenge was curated for the participants to address and design solutions for problem statements focusing on creating design concepts for future urban mobility. Throughout the challenge, the participants learnt and applied the concepts of Design Thinking, whereby the participants empathised to understand the problem, define the core problems in a human-centred manner and ideate on innovative solutions to the problem statement. The on-the-ground interaction and engagement with the relevant stakeholders and community provided a good experiential learning to participants.

A speaker Dr. Stephen Poon Tai Fook delivered a talk on the evolution of urban mobility towards a sustainable, value-added, walkable city. Following this, the participants engaged in discussions and workshops, delving deeper into the nuances of smart transportation. Students participated in onsite experience in Bukit Bintang, allowing them to converse with local merchants and comprehend the practical challenges they face. This interaction fuelled the creative process, leading to viable solution ideas. Students then attended a workshop focusing on storytelling and presentation skills to prepare them for video presentations and Finale Pitch for the finalists. This workshop is delivered by Mr. Benny Chia. This Biz Challenge is sponsored by KL Society.

Top 13 teams have showcased their innovative ideas in solving the last mile connectivity issues in Bukit Bintang on the Finale Idea Pitching Day. A summary of proposed problem statements, potential solutions, design of proposed solutions, and business models are included in this report.
